Rameshwar Temple is situated in Vindhyachal of Mirzapur district. This place is at Ram Gaya Ghat, about eight kilometers from Mirzapur. According to legend, Lord Rama established the Shivalinga at this place.

Vindhya region in Mirzapur district is famous for its Mahatma. Lakhs of devotees from every corner of the country throng here during both the Navratras of the year. A huge crowd of faith and belief is seen here. Situated on the Vindhya Hills, the Vindhya region adjacent to the holy banks of the Adi Ganga is rich from the historical point of view as well as contains within itself its religious importance. You must have heard the names of temples like Maa Vindhyavasini Temple, Ashtabhuja Mata, Kali-Kho etc.

There is also a description of Ramgaya Ghat in Shivpur, located at a distance of about 2 kilometers from Vindhyavasini Dham. Where Lord Shri Ram had offered tarpan to his father Dasharatha. In the same Shivpur area, Rameshwaram temple is also established near the road leading to Ramgaya Ghat, adjacent to the Prayagraj-Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay railway route.

According to ancient folk beliefs, after performing Shraddha at Ramgaya Ghat in Tretayuga, Lord Shri Ram had installed Shivalinga here. Which later became known as Rameshwaram Mahadev.This temple has also been a victim of destruction by Mughal invaders. The temple was destroyed by Mughal ruler Aurangzeb. After which the temple was again renovated with the remaining stones.
