Bhimsen Mandir Mainpuri
The modern temple of Bhimsen Maharaj located in Mayanpuri came into its form in the 12th century, but the idol of Lord Bhimsen is said to be of mythological period. Like Bateshwar Dham, here also the idol of Lord Shiva is in Padmasana posture.
In the idol, Lord Bholenath, who wears a Chandrakala on his head decorated with large coired jute and is adorned with a big moustache, has been decorated.
It is said about Bhimsen Maharaj Temple that Pandavas stayed here during their exile while going to Bithoor along the banks of Ichchu River (present day Ishan). Pandavas stopped at the temple of Lord Bhimsen and worshiped Bhimsen Maharaj here.
While there is a temple of Maa Shitala Devi in the north-east corner of the city, Lord Bhimsen is present in the south-east corner. It is believed that Lord Shiva has been placed between the North and South Poles to protect this holy city.
