Bhootnath Temple Jhansi

Bhootnath temple has a prominent place among the devotees of the city. It is said that Vishwanath is in Kashi and Bhoothnath is in Jhansi. It is believed that this temple is about four hundred years old.
Bhoothnath Temple situated on the banks of Lakshmi Pond has many beliefs. Priest Rajkumar Makdariya told that it is not known when this temple was established. But it is believed that this temple is about four hundred years old. Here Nandi is in pair and there are also two idols of Lord Ganesha, whose trunks are in different directions. The Jal Lahari of Shivalinga is square, whereas in all other temples it is circular. There is also a cave of Siddha Baba. Devotees offer special prayers on Nagpanchami. According to him, many rituals are performed in the temple by the devotees for health benefits. There is also a belief of having darshan on 11 Mondays.

Sometimes cremation ashes were offered to Lord Bhootnath. The crematorium was at some distance from the temple itself. But now this religious tradition is limited to only a few important occasions. According to the priest Rajkumar, now Abhishek is offered with milk, curd, honey, Ganga water etc. Even today, many people perform the last rites after the death of a person on the banyan tree near the main entrance of the temple.
