Once Brahma meditated, Kalpavriksha was born. A man was resting beneath him. Brahma came and gave him Bilva. After Brahma left, Indra came there and asked him to rule the earth. The man with Bilva said, if he gets Indra’s thunderbolt, he will rule the earth. Indra told him that whenever you remember the thunderbolt, the thunderbolt will come to you. After this the name of that man became Bilva. Bilva started ruling the earth. Kapil Muni and King Bilva became friends. Once during a religious talk, both of them started fighting. Bilva worshiped Lord Vishnu and asked for a boon that Kapil would be afraid of him. After giving the boon, Vishnu went to Kapil Muni. Told him to tell Bilv that he is afraid of him. Kapil Muni refused.Bilva started blabbering, seeing that Kapil is not afraid of him, Indra said, Bilva, you should visit the Shivalinga located in the west direction in the Mahakal forest, this will help you achieve victory. Bilva came to Mahakal forest and after coming here he saw Shiva and worshiped him. Meanwhile, Kapil Muni reached there and saw that Shiva was present in Bilva’s body, so he said to Bilva, you have won me. I accept my defeat. Due to the darshan and worship of King Bilva, Shivalinga became famous by the name of Bilveshwar Mahadev. It is believed that the person who will have darshan of Bilveshwar Shivalinga. He will be free from all sins. Will attain Shivlok in the end. This temple is in Ambodiya village.
