2800 year old Sudh Mahadev Temple, the real trident of Lord Shiva is buried here even today

On the basis of religious belief, we all know that Lord Shiva is very fond of his Damru, Naga, Mundamalas and Trishul, he never separates them from himself. All this is included in the form of Shiva, but do you know that there is a temple of Bholenath where his broken trident is installed. Yes, although there are many unique temples of Lord Shiva, but Shankar Ji’s Sudh Mahadev temple located near Patnitop is one of the major temples of Shiva.

This temple is also mentioned in mythological texts. Today we will tell you about the special things and ancient stories related to this temple.

Sudh Mahadev temple is in Patnitop
The temple of Sudh Mahadev (Pure Mahadev) is situated near Patnitop, 120 km away from Jammu. The biggest feature of this temple is that here three pieces of a huge trident are buried in the ground, which according to mythology belongs to Lord Shiva himself. Sudh Mahadev Temple is said to have been constructed around 2800 years ago.

Which was rebuilt about a century ago by a local resident Ramdas Mahajan and his son. This temple has an ancient Shivalinga, statues of Nandi and Shiva family.

Here is the last Jyotirlinga of Lord Shiva, the wish of having a child is fulfilled.

is related to a demon
On the basis of Puranas, it is said that the birthplace of Mother Parvati was Mantalai. Mother used to come here often to worship. Once when she came here to worship, a demon named Sudhant also followed her. He was also a devotee of Shiva and had come to worship. Mother Parvati opens her eyes after the puja is over. Then suddenly seeing the demon in front of him, he screams. This sound reaches Lord Shiva.

Lord Shankar, absorbed in samadhi, feels that Mother Parvati is definitely in some trouble and he throws his trident to protect her. The trident comes and hits the demon Sudhant in the heart, when Lord Shiva realizes that he has unknowingly made a big mistake.

This is how the temple got its name Sudh Mahadev
After this, Shiva appeared there and wanted to give life back to Sudhant, but Sudhant wanted to attain salvation by sacrificing his life at the hands of his favorite God.Then Lord Shankar tells Sudhant that from today onwards this place will be known as Sudh Mahadev in your name. Also, Lord Shankar cut that trident into three pieces and buried them there, which can be seen even today. However, another story is also popular in this regard in which Sudhant has also been described as an evil demon. It is believed that after coming to this temple, he cast an evil eye on Mother Parvati, hence Lord Shiva killed him.

There is also a place in the temple complex where it is said that the ashes of the demon Sudhant are kept here.

These Trishuls are buried in the open in the temple premises and the devotees coming here also perform Jalabhishek on them. Saint Baba Roopnath of Nath sect had taken Samadhi in this temple many years ago. His Dhuni is still in the temple premises.

Just outside the temple, there is a Paap Nashni Bowli (stepwell) in which water keeps coming from the mountains for 12 months. It is believed that bathing in it destroys all sins. Most of the devotees visit the temple only after taking bath in it.

Fair is held in the month of Sawan
Mantalai, the birthplace of Goddess Parvati, is at a distance of 5 kilometers from the temple. It was here that Mother Parvati was born and married to Lord Shiva. The temple of Mata Parvati and Gauri Kund here are also places worth seeing.
