Butati Dham Temple (Shree Chaturdas Ji), Nagaur

Share

Butati Dham is located near Kuchera town on the Ajmer-Nagaur road, 52 km from Nagaur in Rajasthan. It is also known as ‘Chaturdas Ji Maharaj’s temple’. This temple is actually the mausoleum of Chaturdas ji.

History
It is believed that Saint Chaturdas ji resided here about five hundred years ago. Born in the Charan clan, he was a great Siddha Yogi and with his Siddhis he used to cure paralysis patients. Even today people take seven rounds of his Samadhi to get free from paralysis. Every year lakhs of paralysis patients and other devotees from all over the country come here, especially on the days of Ekadashi and Dwadashi.

Celebration
A fair is held here on the Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of every month. Apart from this, special fairs are organized throughout the month in the months of Vaishakh, Bhado and Magh.

Sapta Parikrama
This temple is famous for providing relief from paralysis by doing Sapta Parikrama. Here, paralysis patients have to take a parikrama every day while staying for seven days. After the morning aarti, the first parikrama is done outside the temple and after the evening aarti, the second parikrama is done inside the temple. Both these parikrama together are called one parikrama. The patient has to do parikrama like this for seven days.

Here the family members of the patient regularly circumambulate 7 temples continuously and apply the incense sticks of the Havan Kund and the disease gradually reduces its effects. The body parts which are not moving slowly start working.

According to the mythological story of the establishment of Butati in the beginning of 1600 AD, a Brahmin named Bura Lal Sharma (Daima) established Butati, after which Butati was named after him, after which Butati came under the control of Rajputs. Rajput Thakur Saheb named Bhaum Singh established his dominance over Butati, after which Butati came to be known by the new name Bhaum Singh ji’s Butati.

There is a temple of Saint Shri Chaturdas Ji Maharaj towards the west in the village. This temple is the main center of faith. In this temple, a paralyzed person becomes completely healthy in just seven parikramas.
