The ancient temple of Daksha Mahadev also known as Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple, is situated in the south Kankhal town in Haridwar.

A sacred place of great devotion and faith among Lord Shiva devotees, the Daksheshwar Mahadev Temple is a centre of attraction in holy month of Saavan as per Hindu calender. This temple of Lord Shiva is named after King Daksha Prajapati, father of Sati.

also known as Daksheswar Mahadev Temple, is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva It derives its name from King Daksha Prajapati, who organized a grand yajna where his daughter Sati self-immolated due to insult. Enraged by Sati’s sacrifice, Lord Shiva sent Virabhadra to behead Daksha, who was later given a goat’s head by Brahma. The present temple was built in 1810 CE by Queen Dhankaur and rebuilt in 1962, serving as a pilgrimage site for Shaivaite devotees, especially during Maha Shivaratri. The temple’s story symbolizes devotion, family bonds, and the consequences of disrespecting divine beings, emphasizing humility and reverence.
