Legend tell a tale that in the Dwapar age when Lord Krishna appeared on the earth for the first time in the form of a snake and climed atop the mountain to bless the mankind with his grace. It is at that spot where the Danda Nagraja Temple is standing tall. Millions of ardent followers of Lord Krishna visit this temple in Pauri all over the year coming from all across the country to seek the blessing of the all powerful Lord Krishna. It is a common belief that whoever seeks something good will definitely get his or her wish fulfilled if prayed with diligence here in Danda Nagaraja Temple.
Localites have a strong belief that Lord Krishna still stays here and has done so over many centuries. They say they have special blessings of Danda Nagsraja. Popular faith is that Danda Nagraja has the power to foresee any ill coming to the area and always informs them about any mishap that is about to occur. Not just that, locals say the Lord also gives them the solution to the problem.
In between 13 to 15 April of every year, a big fair is organised at Danda Nagraja temple known as Danda Nagraja Fair’ which is attended by a large crowds of devotees. According to the custom, devotees offers Jaggery (gur) as prasad before the deity of the temple and take a round (parikrama) of the temple after the darshan.
