Share

In this temple, Shivlinga itself has arisen from the underground, every wish is fulfilled here.

There is an ancient Shiva temple in Devbaloda village, located 22 km from Durg district headquarters of Chhattisgarh. The specialty of this temple is that the Shivalinga itself has emerged from the underground. This temple was built in the 12th-13th century during the Kalachuri era. Whereas the temple was constructed by a single person in Chamasya Ratri. This entire temple is built on a single stone, but its dome is incomplete. It is believed that the wishes of the devotees here are fulfilled within six months.

Interesting story of ancient Shiva temple.

This is why the dome is incomplete

The story behind the temple is that the man used to bathe in the pond every night. After that he used to build the temple in a naked state. The artisan’s wife also helped him in his work. When her husband worked in temple construction. She used to cook and bring food for him. One day when he was building the temple. Then his sister was bringing food. When he saw that his sister was coming. He was naked, so out of shame he jumped into the pond in the temple courtyard. Where that person went after that is not known till date. For this reason the dome of the temple is incomplete.

workmanship all around the temple

There is beautiful workmanship all around the temple. Images of Gods and Goddesses have been made here. Seeing which one can know how people lived between 12-13 century. There are such artefacts as Lord Shiva dancing with a trident, fighting and dancing between two bulls etc.

The water in the pond does not dry up

There is a pond inside the temple. It is said that the water of the pond never dries up. Where the water comes from, its source is not known. It is said that there is a tunnel inside the pond, which emerges in Arang district. However, no scientific or archaeological evidence has been found so far. There are also fishes and turtles inside the pond.

Apart from all these, a pair of snake-serpent also lives here. People have seen this couple clinging to Shivling many times. They believe that even today a pair of snakes and snakes roam around in this temple. However, till now this snake-snake pair has never caused any harm to anyone. Every year on the day of Mahashivratri, a two-day fair is organized in the temple. In which devotees come from far and wide. This fair is also called the fair of Devbaloda.
