Long time ago there was a king named Viduratha. He had two sons Suniti and Sumati. Once the king went to the forest for hunting. There he saw a big pit and was surprised. Then an ascetic came there and told that a demon named Kunjabha, who lives in the abyss, comes and goes from here. You kill him. The king returned to his palace and there he discussed with his sons and ministers. After a few days, Kunjabha abducted a sage’s daughter Mudavati from the ashram there. The king got angry and ordered his two sons and his army to kill Kunjabha. The king’s army and his sons started war with Kunjabha.Due to Amodha’s pestle, Kunjabha destroyed the army and captured both the king’s sons. When the king came to know, he became sad. Meanwhile, Markandeya Muni came there and told the king to go to Mahakal forest and worship the Shivalinga situated to the south of Rupeshwar Mahadev there. From them you will get a bow, with which you will be able to destroy Kunjabha. The king immediately reached Mahakal forest in Avantikanagari. Here he worshiped Shivalinga. Lord Shiva provided him with a bow. The king arrived to fight with his bow and army. The war continued for three days. The king killed Kunjabha with the help of his bow and returned to his kingdom with his daughter and sons. The king had received a bow from Shivalinga, hence Shivalinga became famous by the name of Dhanusahastreshwar. It is believed that whoever worships this Shivalinga, his enemies are destroyed and he does not have to live in hell.
