Narayana is the first name of Supreme Brahman as mentioned in Narayana Suktam, Narayana Upanishad. According to Puranas the four armed Supreme Being is called Narayana as the casual water emerged from his leg and he made this water his residence. After that Brahma was born from lotus navel. So the primary creation or the first creation emerged from Narayan that’s why he is called Adi Narayana, “Adi” means first or from whom everything came into existence. Narayana came to be known as Vishnu as he pervaded the entire creation internally and externally.
