Gangeswaraswamy Tadikalapudi,Andhra Pradesh
Ancient temple, but, under renovation. Nowadays, pujas performed in a makeshift room. All the idols are covered, for fear of damage during reconstruction and renovations.
This temple is unique in the sense that the Sivalinga in the temple (it is said) sparkles. Meaning of sparkles in Telugu language is “Talukulu”. Hence, in olden days, this village was called ” Talukula poindi”. As the time passes by, the name of the village changed to present name – Tadikelapudi.
It is said that this temple was constructed about 800 years back by Venki Chalukya kings. It is also said that the “Sivalinga” consecrated here was brought from Kasi (Banaras).
Another story is that the Sivalinga, here, was Swayambhu and the temple was consecrated by “Bhishma pitamaha”.
