Gauri Shankar dham Sujanganj,Jaunpur
History: The historical Shakti Peeth Gauri Shankar Dham situated at the western end of the district has become a center of faith and belief for Sujanganj devotees. Shivalinga located in the temple is self-existent and timeless as well as in the form of Ardhanarishwar. This temple came into existence in the fourteenth century, during the period when the Bharons ruled here. It is noteworthy that this temple is situated on a mound.
It was the early years of the fourteenth century when a pet cow from the neighborhood came grazing. When she did not return late in the evening, Swami came to the mound while searching and saw that the cow was standing in the bush and milk was coming out of its breast and falling on the black stone. When the owner of the cow discussed this with the people, they wanted to know the truth by digging, then the dream came that don’t dig for me, build a temple there.
Then what happened was that the temple was constructed as per the then system. Since then the fame of the temple started increasing by leaps and bounds. From time to time the physical development of the temple also started. Another Vaishnav temple was established nearby.
It is believed that the wishes of the devotees who come here are definitely fulfilled. No terrible natural disaster occurs as far as the sound of the bell that rings during the Aarti in the temple travels (about 5 km around).
