Gauri Shankar Mandir Gorakhpur
Historic Gaurishankar Temple: Here Mahadev and Mother Gauri fulfill the wishes of the devotees.
Campierganj/Gorakhpur: Gauri-Shankar temple situated at Mahadeva Tola of Bhaisla village on the banks of Rapti river is a center of attraction for the devotees coming from India and abroad. Shiva and Parvati are present in this Shivalinga that emerged from the earth. It is believed that here the wishes of all the devotees are fulfilled by Mahadev and Maa Gauri.
According to the legends associated with this temple, this area was densely forested in the thirteenth-fourteenth century. Here some people were trying to kill a cow when suddenly from the middle of the forest, Lord Shiva and Parvati along with Shivling came out tearing the earth. Since then people started worshiping here. Took a pledge not to kill cows.
According to legend, the temple for this amazing Shivalinga was built in 1850 by Ram Sahay Pandey, the landlord of Moosabar village. But when efforts were made to install Shivalinga in the temple, it was not successful. Ultimately he built a temple at the same place where the Shivalinga had emerged. The Gosai (Giri) family has been looking after the temple since then. He has also built his residence near the temple. Family members take turns providing services in the temple.
