Ghanteshwar Mahadev (57/84) Kamri Marg, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh

Share

This temple is situated at Kartik Chowk Tiraha on the journey route of Bhootbhavan Baba Mahakal. Another temple connected to it was later built to the north-east of the original temple of Shri Ghanteshwar Mahadev. In which idols of Hanuman ji, Kartikeya, Ganesh and Bhairav were installed in different parts. Inside this, there is a hall consisting of 8 pillars made of tarnished old black stones. From which, after descending two stairs and entering the 5 feet high east facing entrance through the steel door inside the stone frame, a two and a half feet wide brass water reservoir is visible.

There is a shape of a snake on this water bearer and a snake is shadowing the 7 inches high black colored Linga. The idol of Nandi, made of black stone, is seated on a 2-inch high pedestal on the floor itself. Black stone statues of Lord Ganesha, Parvati at the top and Shiva and Parvati at the bottom are installed on the walls. The temple is a symbol of great antiquity.

Mahadev tells Goddess Parvati that during the time of Chakshush Manu, a group named Ghant reached Brahmalok, but he was not even allowed to enter there. After a year, he saw Devarshi Narad coming out of Brahma Sabha. Ghant told him that I am Mahadev’s favorite singer and expert in lyricism. Narad asked him to wait and went away. He told the whole story to Mahadev within a matter of an hour. Mahadev cursed him and made him fall on earth near Devdasvan.

Narad reached there with the desire to see him. He said, don’t get angry, you have repented by falling. Narad sent him to Mahakalvan and in the east of Khanteshwar, a Uttam Linga giving all wealth would be famous by the name Ghanteshwar. Other sages also asked him to go there. There a sin-killing Linga appeared. Ghanta saw him and after being greeted by everyone, boarded the plane and reached Shivlok by the grace of Shiva.

If someone who is sick, distressed, destitute or sad sees Ghanteshwar Linga, then he attains heaven by sitting in an all-helpful plane. There he enjoys the company of Gandharvas and Apsaras and when his virtues wane, he again becomes like a king and becomes the ruler of Jambudweep.
