Golpahari Shiv Mandir Jamshedpur Jharkhand

Share

Golpahari Temple is a famous Hindu temple located in Giridih, Jharkhand state of India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is a popular destination for pilgrims and spiritual seekers. This temple is situated on the top of a hill, from where a wonderful panoramic view of the surrounding area is visible.

History

The temple has a very important history. It is said that, in 1900, a woman named Ramadai Devi came to live in Jamshedpur from Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh with her daughter Yashoda. At that time Jamshedpur was known as Sakchi. She started living with her daughter in a small hut at the bottom of the hill. One night Ramadai Devi had a dream, in which the goddess appeared to him, and told him that there was a stone idol on the top of the hill, which Ramadai should worship daily. As the sun rose the next morning, Ramadai climbed the hill and was surprised to see a stone under a tree with two eyes carved into it. Ramadai was surprised to see his dream come true and from that very day he started worshiping the idol and later built a temple. Which you know today as Golpahari Mata Temple. And soon this news spread among the local people and people started visiting the temple in large numbers. It is also said that Ramadai was granted a special power by the goddess as she could tell the fate of devotees just by looking at them. Ramadai worshiped Mata Pahari till 1938. After this, her daughter-in-law Shanti Devi worshiped the mother till 2004 and also expanded the temple. After her, now Shanti Devi’s daughter-in-law Pushpa Tiwari is taking care of the temple and worshiping it. They also have a statue of Ramadai. It is still believed by the local people that the goddess appears in his dreams whenever he faces any problem or struggle in his life. So this was the story of Golpahari Mata Temple.

Another fact about Golpahari Mata Temple is that only female priests are allowed to perform puja here. Apart from Golpahari Mata Temple, Lord Shiva Temple, Shitala Mata Temple, Kali Mata Temple, Lord Jagannath Temple, Goddess Durga Temple, Lord Ganesha Temple and Lord Hanuman Temple are also situated on the hill. On the way to reach the temple you can see 5 faced Hanuman and Jagannath Dev.
