Hanuman Dhara (Panchmukhi Hanuman) Mandir Chitrakoot,Madhya Pradesh
Among the pilgrimages of India, Chitrakoot is also honored because it is here that devotee Shiromani Tulsidas got the darshan of Lord Shri Ram with the help of Bhaktaraj Hanuman. The development of Chitrakoot happened during the reign of King Harshavardhan. Although there are more than one grand temple of Hanuman ji in India, the Hanuman Dhara temple of Chitrakoot Dham located in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh adjacent to Banda in Uttar Pradesh is something unique. Even today, water is seen continuously falling on the left arm of Hanuman ji here. Looking at the eyes of Viraje Hanuman ji here, it seems as if he is smiling at us. There is a small temple of Lord Rama here. The water of this stream flows touching Hanuman ji, that is why it is called Hanuman Dhara. By its darshan every person gets relieved of stress and desire is also fulfilled.
It is said that one day after the coronation of Shri Ram in Ayodhya, Hanuman ji said to Lord Shri Ram, “O Lord, the heat generated by the intense fire after burning Lanka is giving me a lot of trouble. As a result, I feel compelled to do other things. Please tell me some remedy by which I can get rid of this. ”
Then Lord Sri Rama smiled and said, “Don’t worry. You go to Chitrakoot mountain. There you will get rid of this problem by the continuous fall of nectar like cold water on your body. “Hanuman ji came to Chitrakoot and recited Shri Ram Raksha Sutra 1008 times in a hill in the Vindhya mountain range.
As soon as his ritual was completed, a stream of water appeared from above, as soon as it fell, Hanuman’s body got coolness. Even today that water stream falls continuously here, due to which this place is known as Hanuman Dhara. The water of the stream merges in the mountain itself, people call it Prabhati river or Patal Ganga.
Another story about Hanuman Dhara is that after setting fire to Lanka, Shri Hanuman came to this place to extinguish the fire in his tail. It is said that when Hanuman ji had set fire to Lanka with his tail, there was a lot of burning on his tail. In Ram Rajya, Lord Hanuman begged Lord Shri Ram to cure his burnt tail. Then Shri Ram made a holy stream at this place with the stroke of his arrow.
A miraculous holy and cold water stream comes out of the mountain and goes down to the pond after bathing the tail of the idol of Hanuman ji. This place is 4 kilometres away from Ram Ghat at the beginning of Vindhya on the mountain range. On Hanuman Dhara you get to see the temple of Hanuman ji, which is located on a high hill.
