The historical name of Delhi is the city of Indraprastha, which was settled by the Pandavas during the Mahabharata period on the banks of the Yamuna River. Then Pandavas ruled over Indraprastha and Kauravas ruled over Hastinapur. Both of them came from the Kuru dynasty. According to Hindu belief, Bhima, the second among the Pandavas, is considered the brother of Hanumanji. Both are called sons of Vayu. At the time of the establishment of Indraprastha, the Pandavas had established five Hanuman temples in this city. This temple is one of those five.
According to belief, the famous devotional saint Tulsidas ji had also visited this temple during his visit to Delhi. That’s why he composed Hanuman Chalisa at this place itself. Then the Mughal emperor requested him to show some miracle in his court. Then Tulsidas ji satisfied the emperor with the grace of Hanuman ji. The emperor was pleased and dedicated the crown urn with the Islamic moon on the peak of this temple. For this reason, despite many Muslim attacks, no Muslim invader ever attacked this temple, keeping in mind the importance of this Islamic moon.
