Hanuman Mandir Lamgaon,Chhattisgarh

Share

Lamgaon Hanuman Temple, located in Surguja district, Chhattisgarh, is a sacred site known for its miraculous self-growing idol of Lord Hanuman. Many believe the increasing size of the idol is a divine phenomenon. Some consider it a sign of Lord Hanuman’s presence in Kaliyuga.

The temple structure reflects traditional Hindu architecture, with the Ram Darbar inside, featuring idols of Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, and Radha-Krishna. The walls depict stories from the Ramayana, and an eternal flame (Akhand Jyot) has been burning continuously for over 20 years.

History

Approximately 80 years ago, a Bajrangbali (Hanuman) idol, less than one foot tall, was discovered under a tree. It is believed that in Lamgaon, a man named Baba Triveni had a dream in which Lord Hanuman appeared and told him that he was trapped inside a tree and needed to be freed. Initially, Baba Triveni dismissed the dream, but after experiencing it multiple times, he decided to cut down the tree. Upon doing so, he discovered an idol of Lord Hanuman inside. Since then, worship of Bajrangbali began at that spot. Over time, devotees constructed a grand temple there. Although the tree has withered, Bajrangbali remains seated at the same location.

The remarkable aspect is that the idol, initially less than a foot tall, has grown to over three and a half feet over the years, indicating that the idol’s height is continuously increasing.

Continuous Recitation of Ramcharitmanas

Since 2002, the temple has maintained an unbroken recitation of the Ramcharitmanas, accompanied by an eternal flame (Akhand Jyot). Four dedicated priests take turns, each reciting for three-hour shifts, ensuring that the sacred verses resonate within the temple premises around the clock. This continuous chanting fosters a profound spiritual ambiance, attracting devotees seeking solace and divine blessings.

The temple celebrates Hanuman Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman, with great fervor. Devotees gather to offer special prayers, chant hymns, and participate in various rituals dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The atmosphere is charged with devotion, and the temple premises are adorned beautifully to mark the occasion.

Tuesdays and Saturdays hold special significance at the Lamgaon Hanuman Temple.
