Chhindwara. The wonderful temple of Ardhanarishwar is situated in Mohgaon Haveli, about 62 kilometers from the district headquarters. This temple dates back to the time of Parmar dynasty. This temple has four entrances in four directions, which symbolize Char Dham Dwarka, Rameshwaram Dham, Jagannath Dham and Badrinath Dham. The amazing feature of Jyotirlinga is that it is made of both dark black and fair colored stone, which symbolizes the presence of “Shiva” and Mother “Parvati” together. This is the desired form of Lord Ardhanarishwar. This is the only Shiva temple in the world, where the first ray of the sun falls directly on the Jyotirlinga. By darshan and circumambulation of this Jyotirlinga, one gets the virtuous benefit of visiting all four Dhams and darshan of 12 Jyotirlingas.

Ardhanarishwar Jyotirlinga of Mohgaon is the place where all the desires are fulfilled by enchanting the mind. This pilgrimage site is situated on the banks of the serpentine river since ancient times, which originates from the root of the Audumber tree situated on the first step of the Satpura mountain range and flows serpentine in Omkar, This Jyotirlinga whose ancient name was Mahdagavan. The mythological basis is that this area is called Dandakaranya, which is the workplace of demon guru Shukracharya. Daitya Guru Shukracharya was an ardent devotee of Lord Bholenath, he performed penance on the banks of river Sarpini, that place is the temple complex. Bholenath was pleased with the penance of Shukracharya, then Shukracharya said to God, I only want to see Mataji with you, then God showed him the form of Ardhanarinteshwar. From that very day Lord Ardhanarishwar was established here in the form of Jyotirlinga.

After that, penance was performed here by exclusive devotees, in which the living tombs of Anyaji Maharaj, Mukand Maharaj and three Mahatmas are established. This place is situated at the center point of Char Dham (Badri, Kedar, Dwarka, Jagannathpuri, Rameshwar), twelve Jyotirlingas and Tripura Sundari. Since ancient times, this Jyotirlinga temple is called Shaktipeeth because its construction structure and architecture is based on Mahamrityunjaya Yantra.

Jyotirlinga, the symbol of worship of Lord Ardhanarishwar, the half-form of Shiva and Shakti, in which the place of Shaktipindi is dark black in color and the place of Shiva’s place of light-like Linga is visible like fire, it is called Shaktipeeth. In this way, Ardhanarishwar Jyotirlinga is formed due to the presence of half of Shiva and Shakti.

The twelve gates between the first and second circumambulation path symbolize twelve Jyatirlingas and the four gates between the second and third circumambulation path symbolize Char Dham. Along with this, twelve Jyotirlingas are present in the complex.

By circumambulating it one gets the fruitful results of visiting twelve Jyotirlingas and Char Dham. Due to the name of Sarpini river, Kalsarp Yoga Dosh Shanti Vidhan at this place gives quick results. In the only temple in the world, the natural divine scene of sun rays on Jyotirlinga is visible on the occasion of Kartik Purnima and Mahashivratri. In the month of Shravan, Kavad pilgrims take water from the rivers of India and anoint the Jyotirlinga.

Since ancient times, the worshipers of Shiva and Shakti were the cultural men like Shri Ram, Shri Krishna, Maharaja Ravana, Emperor Shri Vikramaditya, Shrimant Adyashankaracharya, Shri Maharana Pratap, Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Shri Guru Govind Singh etc. all the divine persons worshiped Shiva and Shakti. Have been a worshipper.

The temple was renovated between the thirteenth century and the fifteenth century by the Gond kings of Deogarh and the Bhosale kings of Nagpur.

This Ardhanarishwar Jyotirlinga is situated in Mohgaon Haveli village, just 6 kilometers away from Saunsar town in Saunsar tehsil of Chhindwara district.
