Indreshwar Mahadev Mandir (35/84) Bilotipura, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh
From Juna Somwariya or KD Gate, before the big bridge of Shipra River, leaving the valley path for Chakratirtha, climb the valley on the left side and Indreshwar Mahadev Temple is situated just in front. This temple has its antiquity. The Jaladhari in the sanctum sanctorum, which is about 30 inches wide, is made of black stone in the middle of which the Indreshwar Linga is installed.
A two and a half feet high trident is buried nearby. There is a snake on the Shivalinga and a 2.6 feet high trident is buried nearby. Jaladhari is towards the north. While entering the sanctum sanctorum, on the left side, a little above a very ancient floor, an ancient statue is installed which looks like Vishnu, in the middle is the statue of Ganesha and on the right side is the statue of Kartikeya. There is a big Peepal tree in front.
Once Prajapati killed Tvashta’s son Kushadhwaj, then Tvashta in anger uprooted his hair and burnt it in the fire due to which the giant Anjanvarna Vritrasura was born. Being Indra’s enemy, he created a fierce war with him. The earth became bloody from the heads of the warriors.
Vritrasura captured Indra and established his kingdom in heaven. Then Brihaspati freed Indra from the chains and said that this is the period of your low fortune and the period of great prosperity of the demons. When Indra asked for its answer, Brihaspati asked him to go to the Mahakaal forest and worship the Linga, the giver of all wealth. Then Indra worshiped that Linga with devotion. Shankar gave him the boon of destruction of Vritra. Then Indra killed that demon with the foam of sea water. Thus the name of this linga was called Indreshwar.
By merely seeing it, a person attains the glory of Indra and by seeing it daily, he becomes happy in heaven and resides in the best worlds for four Kalpas. By worshiping it, gods like Vishnu, Indra etc., sages and folk guardians automatically get worshipped.
