Jagathy Sree Krishna Swamy Temple- Thiruvananthapuram

Jagathy Sree Krishna Swamy Temple is at Thiruvananthapuram- Kerala.This is an ancient hindu temple aged more than 500 years. Here Lord Mahavishnu is in the form of Lord Dhanvanthara.

History

This temple is closely related to Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple, ie, At the time of the developmental construction of Sree Padmanabha Swamy temple in 18th century, The masons and construction workers who are involved in the temple construction of Padmanabha swamy temple got some severe sickness. Even after treating them for a while, no cure had seen and sickness had increased day by day. In the mean time, Travancore King late Sri Anizham Thirunaal Marthanda Varma, gathered all royal priest and Astrologers, and figured out that this sickness can be cured only through the Poojas of Sree Dhanvanthara Moorthi.

At that time, King Sri Marthanda Varma come to know about the Sree Dhanvanthara Moorthi deity in Jagathy Sree Krishna swamy temple. King and all construction workers performed 41 days special poojas and offering in Jagathy Sree Krishna swamy temple. Within the Pooja period itself, all workers got cured from diseases and to normal health conditions. All those workers continued the construction of Sree Padmanabha swamy temple.

At later centuries, Jagathy Sree Krishna swamy temple trust figured out the spiritual Divine influence of Lord Krishna is also present in the main deity idol, through temple astrological findings. As per the Vedic view of “Temple Tandris” Lord Mahavishnu is now worshipped as Lord Krishna.

Here in Jagathy Sree Krishna Swamy Temple, Lord Mahavishnu in the form of Sree Dhanvanthara Moorthi is worshipped as Lord Krishna. This is one of the worlds rarest combination of 3 avatars( Mahavishnu, Dhanvanthara Moorthi, Krishna) of Mahavishnu in a single deity.

Each year temple celebrates several festivals and Special pooja days on Purath Ezhunnallathu,Krishna Janmashtami,Avathara Charth Maholsavamand Vishu.
