History of the temple: There is a 300 year old Jageshwar Mahadev temple of Baba Bholenath under Nawabganj police station area. In a special conversation with ETV Bharat, Mahant Gopal Pandit of the temple told that the Shivalinga of Baba Bholenath installed in this temple appears in black color in the morning, brown color in the afternoon and white color in the evening. He told that this temple is believed to be the place where Lord Brahma performed Yagya in Bithoor. At that time he had established this Shivalinga. Because of this it is famous as Peepaleshwar, Lokeshwar and Jageshwar. To see the miracle of this Shivling, people not only from Kanpur but also from other districts come to have darshan of Bhole Baba and perform his Jalabhishek.

Pair of snake-serpent on Peepal tree: Mahant Gopal Pandit told that once the Peepal tree situated in the temple courtyard was being cut for the construction of the temple. At that time a pair of snakes had appeared here. After this this tree was not allowed to be cut. Here, after many vows, an assurance was given and a prayer was given that this Peepal tree would not be cut for the construction of the temple. Because of this, the branches of this Peepal tree still surround Bhole Baba from all sides. Mahant told that the Shivalinga installed here is made in semi-circular style. Where there will be snakes even today. There is a continuous flow of devotees to have darshan of Bhole Nath in Sawan.
