Jatashankar Dham is situated amidst dense forest-hills and beautiful falling waterfall, the water of the pond has special significance due to its medicinal properties.

Kedarnath of Bundelkhand is in Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh. Here, situated 15 kilometers away from Bijawar tehsil, amidst dense forests and hills and a beautiful waterfall, is the famous temple of Jatashankar Mahadev. There are three ponds in this temple whose mere bathing cures leprosy and skin diseases.

This Shiva temple in Chhatarpur district of M.P. is very different. Along with normal days, devotees gather in large numbers in the month of Shravan. The belief here is such that one would definitely wish to have darshan of Baba at this beautiful place. Because the environment of this place, amidst the lush green mountains and waterfalls, this temple radiates a different captivating atmosphere.

Jatashankar Mahadev is called Kedarnath of Bundelkhand.

At a distance of about 15 kilometers from Bijawar tehsil of Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh, there is the temple of Jatashankar Mahadev amidst the vast dense forests and high hills and the natural picturesque environment and continuous stream of waterfalls. This temple is also called Kedarnath of Bundelkhand. There is a constant flow of tourists and devotees here during normal days as well as during the month of Sawan. Even before entering this temple complex, the huge statue of Lord Shiva is the center of attraction. There are also small temples just below it.

The specialty of the pond is full of medicinal properties, definitely take bath here.

While reaching inside the temple complex, one has to pass through many stairs and then reach the temple. There is also a waterfall inside the temple which is the center of attraction. Here, the anointment of Shivalinga is done with the water coming out of Gomukh. There are three ponds here. Whose water is full of medicinal properties. This holy water becomes hot or cold according to the season. Do not forget to take bath in the water of these ponds, bathing here cures skin diseases and leprosy. People also consume this water and take it to their homes.

Story related to 14th century king Vivastu

The establishment of the temple is linked to King Vivastu of the 14th century. Lord Shiva had mentioned this place after appearing to the king in his dream. The king immediately sent soldiers in the morning and searched the place extensively and finally a Shivlinga was found at this place. After which Shivalinga was consecrated and worshiped as per the rituals. His minister was made to sit in the havan near the pond in the same premises because he was suffering from leprosy, More paste was applied and water was sprinkled. After some time his disease disappeared.

How did a Shiva devotee become a dangerous robber?

There is also a story that there used to be a dangerous dacoit Murat Singh. Murat Singh was a big name in the world of crime. He had become synonymous with terror. Suddenly he developed vitiligo. One day, thirsty, he reached the pond and quenched his thirst by drinking water. As soon as he drank the water, his white spots started getting cured. He understood that this was a miracle of Lord Shiva. From then on, the robber’s heart changed and he started worshiping Lord Shiva.
