The story of Shri Jateshwar Mahadev is related to King Veerdhanva and the prevention of the evils committed by him in the forest. The presented story shows the importance of sages and sages. The king could attain peace only on the path shown by the sage.

According to mythology, once upon a time there was a king named Veerdhanva. He was religious, famous and famous on earth. Once he went to the forest to hunt. There he saw the figure of a deer and fired arrows. Where they shot the arrows were in reality the five sons of a Samvarta Brahmin who were wandering in the form of a deer. His deer form is rooted in the legend of a curse he received. According to that story, once five young deer kids were killed by those Brahmin sons. After going home, the children narrated the entire incident to their father and asked for the path of atonement. Then sage Bhrigu, sage Atri and sage Abhi arrived there. After knowing all the things, he said that for atonement, all five of you should live in the forest wearing deer skin for five years. In this way, all five of them were wandering in the forest and after a year, King Veerdhanva killed them considering them to be deer. When the king came to know that he was the son of a Brahmin, he became extremely sad. Trembling with fear, he reached Devarat Muni and told him everything. Devarat Muni asked him to remain calm and said that by the grace of Lord Janardan your sins will be removed. Hearing the simple reaction of the sage, the king became angry and killed the sage with his sword. After this murder, he became more angry, lost his balance and started wandering in the forest and there he also killed Kapil cow of Galav Rishi. Due to his dull mind he kept wandering in the forest without any direction.

Sage Vamdev once saw the king wandering in the forest. As soon as he saw the king, he knew his entire past. The king started telling them that he had killed a Brahmin and killed a cow and he was deeply saddened by this crime. Then the sage said to the king that your intellect has become dull due to some past deeds and that is why you have been accused of killing Brahma. You go to Mahakal forest immediately. Have darshan of the divine linga situated to the north of Anarkeshwar there. You can be saved only by seeing him. As per the advice of the sage, the king reached Mahakal forest and after reaching there, he worshiped the Shivlinga as told by the sage Vamadev. As a result of his worship, Shiva with matted hair appeared from that linga and gave the boon of freeing the king from the crime of killing a Brahma and purifying his dull mind. Since then that Linga was called Jateshwar. Benefits of darshan: According to belief, sins and faults are destroyed by having darshan of Shri Jateshwar Mahadev. The condition of a person with corrupt mind improves. It is said that the one who reads this story of Jateshwar at the time of Shraddha, his Shraddha pleases the ancestors.
