Brief history of Shri Jateshwar Mahadev Temple

Today, the temple of Shri Jateshwar Mahadev Ji is situated on a small hill surrounded by forests in Jatavahar village. This village is near Takhatgarh in Ropar district. The information about when it was constructed is hidden in the womb of the past. This temple is very ancient and the style of the ruins found during excavation is proof of its antiquity. About 180 years ago this area was rugged and there was no population around it, however with the sudden appearance of this temple it is certain that this land was once the place of Mahadev. Will happen.

Its known history, which is also based on folklore, is as follows: Till 1830, there were neither any ruins nor was anyone aware of the existence of any temple. At that time, Pandit Jai Dayal of Chandan dynasty lived in Takhatgarh. He was a great scholar not only of Sanskrit but also of astrology and rituals. His reputation extended from the huts of the poor to the royal palaces. One of Jhandiya village Regional Nikku Ram was the main disciple. Due to Dev Yoga, he suffered from leprosy due to which he decided to take water samadhi in Ganga ji and informed Pandit Jai Dayal ji about it. Pandit ji was a devotee of Shiva and had full faith in his beloved God.

He gave up the thought of committing suicide of his disciple and advised him on the treatment of his disease and assured him that if he chants the Beej Mantra of “Namah Shivay” 30 times from Param Adha and worships Shivalinga, he will be able to get complete health benefits, but somewhere around There was no Shiva temple. He was thinking seriously about this problem when one day Lord Ashutosh appeared in his dream and showed him his idol, where he was resting under the layers of the ground. It was already time.

After leaving the bed with a happy heart and retiring from worship, he reached his disciple in the bushes and informed him about the whole incident. They came to know that exactly the same incident had happened to Nikku Ram on the same night. Both of them set out to find the place which their favorite god had shown them.

After searching for several days they succeeded in finding him. There Nikku Ram ji told Pandit Joe that during his healthy life, whenever his cow reached that place while grazing animals, milk started flowing from its udder on its own. This boosted Pandit ji’s self-confidence and he believed that God would definitely appear here and after giving orders at the place indicated by him, the excavation started. Pandit ji got support and after hard work of two and a half to three months, the remains of the temple started appearing i.e. Shivalinga which was situated between Gumber and four artistic pillars (the original temple still exists in the same condition) and after finding the remains A wave of happiness ran among the people and the entire atmosphere echoed with the chants of Har Har Mahadev Om Namah Shivay and Shiv Shankar. The digging process gained momentum. One day suddenly when some person’s tool for lifting soil touched the Shiva idol, suddenly a stream of blood gushed out from there, seeing which everyone became astonished and frightened and started praying in their mind to Lord Shiva. Pandit ji went ahead and saw the idol of Shiva, seeing this miracle of God he got scared and he said Om Namah.
