Bhairav is also one of the 15 incarnations of Lord Shiva and this Bhairavgarhi temple, dedicated to the same Bhairav form, is present on the hill of Kirtikhal, located at a distance of about 17 km from Lansdowne and 4 km from Gumkhal. Kalnath Bhairav likes all things black and that is why Prasad of Mandua flour is made for Bhairav which is called Rot. Bhairav located at Bhairavgarhi is considered the protector of Garhwal region. Even today, devotees and priests of Bhairav attain Siddhi by visiting Bhairavgarhi peak.
There is also a fort in Garhwal which has 52 forts, this is Bhairavgarh, whose real name is Langurgarh. Due to its presence on Langul mountain, it was named Langurgarh. Till 1791, this Langurgarh was considered very powerful. To conquer this fort, the Gorkhas laid siege for two years…and attacked for 28 days, but the Gorkhas were defeated and went back from Langurgarh. Due to being invincible, it is also named Ajaygarh.
One of these Gorkhas named Thapa, impressed by the power of Bhairav, had offered a 40 kg copper plate there. Located in Bhairavgarhi, this temple is built on the tomb of Bhairav, outside of which there is Shaktikund on the left side. This Dham is situated at an altitude of 2750 meters above sea level and if the weather is clear, the Himalayas can also be seen from here.
