Kabilarmalai Murugan Temple
Kabilarmalai Murugan Temple is located at Kabilarmalai in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu.
This temple is more than 1000 years old. Sage Kapilar had worshipped Lord Murugan here and so the hill has taken his name.
Lord Muruga resides in this mountain as a child i.e Bala Subramanya,
Valli- Deivayana is also resurrected as Sametha Subramanya.The East facing idol of Lord is around 2 1/2 feet in height and holds a “dhandam” in right hand and his left hand rests on his hips.
The temple is situated in the middle of the hill at a height of 150 feet above the sea level. A breeze blows from the moolasthan of the temple and keeps stirring the flame of the lamp burning near Murugan. On the pillars of this temple, which is a Shaivite shrine, there is a sculpture of Lord Narasimha, which belongs to the Vaishnava shrine. Also there are various sculptures such as fish sculpture with beautiful shape.
Usually a temple is closed on three sides and only one way is opened so that cosmic energy flows continuously giving benefits to people visiting the temple. In a Murugan temple situated in a hill, on the back side of lord Muruga, air flows through a hole which is made naturally helping lamps to give light continuously.
People worship Lord Murugan for birth of a child.People offer milk abhiseka, milk pot, and kavadi after fulfillment of wishes.Near Uchipillayar temple at the top a specific pooja place where pooja is daily conducted for Kabila Maharishi, a sage who had installed Lord Murugan idol can be seen. A pond called Kabilar theertham can also be found.
Thai Poosam festival is conducted very grandly, on that day a lot of Kavadis were taken around the taluk.
