Kailash Mandir Agra Uttar Pradesh
Lord Parashuram himself established it, such darshan of two Shivalingas is rare, know the specialty of the ten thousand year old temple.
The court of Kailashpati Mahadev is more than ten thousand years old. Here two Shivalingas together further enhance the glory of the temple. It is believed that such a coincidence is rare. Shivalinga was established by Lord Parashurama and his father sage Jamadgini. Both of them installed one Shivalinga each in the temple. Very few temples have two Shiva Lingas installed. Renuka Dham, the ashram of Maharishi Parshuram’s father’s mother, is also situated at a distance of barely six kilometers from here.
It is believed that in Treta Yuga, Lord Parashuram, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and his father sage Jamdagni went to Mount Kailash to worship Lord Shiva. Pleased with the rigorous penance of both father and son, Lord Shiva asked them to ask for a boon. On this, Lord Parashurama and his father Rishi Jamdagni asked for their blessings to come with them and stay with them forever. After this, Lord Shiva gifted a Shivalinga to both the father and son.
When both father and son left for Renuka’s ashram built in Agravan on the banks of Yamuna (the past of Renukadham is described in Shrimad Bhagwat Geeta), they stopped for night rest six kilometers before the ashram. Then as soon as the morning came, both father and son went for their daily routine as usual. After this, when they came to worship the Jyotirlingas, the twin Jyotirlingas were established there.
Maharishi Parshuram and his father Rishi Jamdagni tried a lot to lift these Shivlingas, but could not lift them from that place. After losing, both the father and son worshiped and installed both the Shivlingas at the same place with full rituals and from then on this religious place was named Kailash.
The beauty around the temple and the chirping of Kalindi bring joy to the people. Sometimes, when the water level of Yamuna increases and there is a flood situation in Yamuna, the holy water of Yamuna even touches the Shivalingas of Kailash Mahadev Temple. This is a very beautiful sight. A large number of Dharamshalas have been built around the temple by the devotees to fulfill their wishes.
