Kalika Shaktipeeth Shri Nalateswari Temple Nalhati,West Bengal
Maa Naletshwari Temple is one of the 51 places where Sati’s body parts fell, hence known as Shaktipeeths.
As is known from tradition, the neck of Sati or “Nala” fell here. It is a beautiful place with beautiful surroundings and plateaus where Goddess Naltheshwari resides and bears resemblance to Kamakha and Kalighat Peethas. The goddess of this place is known as Maa Nalateshwari, who is also worshiped as Mother or “Bhagobidhaata-Nalateshwari” or Goddess Parvati or Kalika. According to the local people, in the 252nd Bengali year or “Bongapto”, “Kamadeva” (Hindu god of love and desire) who had dreamed about its existence, discovered the throat of Maa Sati in this Nalhati forest.
There is a high peak in the sanctum sanctorum of this temple, where Mother Nalteswari is worshipped. As soon as one sees the idol of the Mother Goddess, a feeling of positive energy (which helps in destroying the evils of life) awakens from within. Below the large “Trinayan” and golden red tongue of the goddess is the “Nala” or throat of the divine Sati. No matter how much water is poured into the throat, it never flows or dries up. A few kilometers away from this temple is the temple of Jogesh Bhairav, Ganesh temple and a mysterious Neem tree.
The puja ceremonies begin with the opening of the “Garbhagriha” at 5:30 am and end at 8:30 pm, but timings vary with the season.
