Kalyaneshwar Mahadev Temple was established by King Janak in Mithila. This temple is also a part of the Mithila Madhya Parikrama Circuit. This temple is located in Kalna village of Harlakhi block of Madhubani district. It is said that King Janak had installed Shivalingas in all four directions from Janakpur.

Presently the Bihar government has declared it a tourist destination in Bihar because this temple belongs to the Ramayana period.

Tulsidas, while describing this temple in his book Ramcharitmanas, has called this temple the gate to Mithala region and has told that Janak King had received blessings from his worshiped god Shiva by doing penance.

Pleased with the penance of King Janak, Shiva Shambhu himself appeared and blessed everyone for their welfare, only then Mahadev was established in this village in the name of Kalyaneshwar Mahadev.

History of Kalyaneshwar Mahadev
This temple was established by King Janak in Tretayuga. This temple was built by the architect of the gods Shri Vishwakarma himself.

Raja Janak was the king of Mithala, hence he is also called Mithilesh and the capital of Raja Janak’s kingdom was Janakpur.
