Kamauri Mahadev: 400 year old Mandi established by Aughad Sadhu is famous for the fragrance of invisible flowers.

Hatha Yogis and Aughad Sadhus are very popular in Yagya Bhoomi Prayag. A special Shivalinga was established here for the worship of Aughad sadhus. Which is famous as a proven place of Aughad Sadhana and the Shivling established here is known as Kamauri Mahadev. Regarding the establishment of Kamori Mahadev, it is believed that Aughad Sadhu, who was doing penance on Mount Kailash more than 400 years ago, had come to Prayag as per the orders of Shiva and it was he who had installed an earthen Shivling in Prayag (near the present Niranjan Cinema) which was a dense forest. Who transformed into a stone due to the penance of Aughad and became present in the form of Shiva forever.

Recognition regarding the establishment of Shivalinga Hundreds of years ago, Prayag was a center of dense forest and vegetation. At that time, this spiritual place, surrounded by rivers on all three sides and the meeting place of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati, always attracted gods and saints. It is believed that more than 400 years ago, an Aughad sage came to Prayag as per the orders of Shiva. In the middle of the dense forest, he established a Shivalinga using mud and deposited his ashes there. Local people used to come out in groups for the Sangam bath on the footpaths through the forest. One day, when people saw Aughad Sadhu burning smoke in front of Shivling in the middle of the dense forest, the people of Prayag came to know about this divine place.

Even today, Aughad rests at night. It is believed that when the number of people coming to this deserted forest area increased and people started coming to this divine place to have darshan, then suddenly that Aughad sadhu mysteriously disappeared. The only thing people knew about Aughad Sadhu was that he had come from Mount Kailash and after that people never saw him. There is a legend that Aughad Sadhus rest here every night and in the morning they clean the Shivalinga and worship the Lord first. Those who go to the temple in the morning always claim this, but now no one is able to see that aghad sadhu with open eyes.

Fragrance comes without flowers. Shivling established in this temple has got fame as Kamauri Mahadev in the name of the same Aughad Sadhu. Now a beautiful temple has been built at this place. The fragrance of various flowers is surprisingly felt here in a very peaceful environment. But, till date no one has been able to know where is the source of the flowers here. There are neither flower gardens nor anything around here that can be attributed to the fragrance of flowers. People consider it a miracle and this adds to its fame. People come from all over the country and abroad to have darshan of Kamauri Mahadev. Every year many events are celebrated at Kamauri Mahadev Complex.
