It is believed that if there is itching in one’s body or if there is any trouble due to skin disease, then taking a dip in the pond provides relief in skin disease.

At one time, the Kankali pond built in the cremation and deserted forest is situated in the present era amidst the densely of the capital. It is said that Naga Sadhus built the Kankali temple 650 years ago on the orders given by Maa Kankali. Right in front of the temple, a grand lake and built a small temple in the middle and established the Shivling. In the initial phase, Naga Sadhu and Shiva devotees used to come to worship.

After this, there was such a miracle that a stream of water erupted from the earth and the lake was filled with full. The 20 -foot -high temple was completely submerged in water. It is a legend that the temple was opened for common devotees by emptying the pond several times, but in a few days the temple was again submerged in the pond. Eventually the temple was released in the same condition due to Prabhu wish. Even today, the temple has been immersed in the middle of the pond for centuries, due to which the devotees are unable to see the Shivling.

Even today, Shivalinga Puja is done after mother Kankali

Pt. Ashish Sharma, a descendant of the priest family, who has been worshiping for several generations in the Maa Kankali temple, says that 700 years ago, Naga sadhus camped near Azad Chowk, Brahmanapara and established the monastery. He was an ardent devotee of Maa Kankali. Mahant Kripal Giri Maharaj was given a darshan in a dream and ordered to build a temple a short distance away. The construction of the temple was completed about 650 years ago and the statue of Maa Kankali was installed in the temple by transferring from the monastery.

After this, the Naga sadhus excavated the creation of a lake and established the Shivling by building a temple in the middle. Naga Sadhu first performed special worship of mother Kankali and then Shivalinga. Pt. They have heard from the elders that one day such a miracle happened that the lake was filled and the temple was completely submerged. Even after centuries, the temple is submerged in water. Even today, after the Aarti of Maa Kankali, the aarti of Shivling, immersed in water, is performed above.

Cleaning the pond four times after independence, during the same time

After the country became independent, the pond was first cleaned in 1965, then the people of the locality visited the stone Shivling for the first time. The pond was filled again. This was followed by cleaning the pond again in 1975, 1999 and then 2013. In this way, thousands of people around four times had seen Shivling. At present, the pond is full and the dome of the temple is visible.

The pond is more than 30 feet deep

In the scorching heat, even when all the ponds of the capital start drying up, the only Kankali pond is full. When the 20 -foot -high temple built between the pond is completely submerged, the depth of the pond can be gauged that at least the depth will be 30 feet.

Water reaches four ponds through the tunnel

It is said that there is a tunnel inside the Kankali pond. Water reaches the Maharajbandh pond, Naraiya pond and old pond from two-three kilometers from the pond from the path of this tunnel. The Baoli of the famous Mahamaya temple is also connected to the Kankali pond.
