Story-

In ancient times, on the banks of Vitasta, there lived a Brahmin named Pandava, abandoned by his relatives and his wife. He did penance to Mahadev, who pleased him and gave birth to a son named Ayonij. In the sixth year, in the presence of the sages, the Brahmin got the child married but the sages did not grant him the boon of long life.

Seeing his father sad, the son said that he will soon control Yamraj through penance for both of us.

The sages were astonished and asked the son how he knew Supreme Rudra. Then the child told them that Siddha, the giver of Siddhi himself, had come here. He blessed me for long life by going to Mahakalvan and worshiping Kanthadeshwar Linga. A voice was heard from the Linga, O Vatsa! I am happy. Tell me what should I provide you? The child wished long life for the person who had darshan. Linga said, those who visit me will be free from any death and will attain the most desired boon. In the second marriage the child asked for the fame of his penis in his own name. Har also gave the boon of fame of Linga by the name of Kanthadeeshwar.

By merely seeing it a person becomes long-lived and free from sin. This Linga is sacred, famous, praiseworthy and destroyer of sins.
