There is a 918 year old Kapaleeshwar Mahadev temple on the Barmer Chauhtan hill. The importance of this temple is different from religious and spiritual point of view. People also take the water of the Amrit Kund and the holy spring built in this temple for the diagnosis of diseases and for Bhoomi Pujan before performing auspicious works. There is a crowd of people here every Monday of Sawan and on Mahashivratri. The fair will be held on Somvati Amavasya and Sawan Monday. There are 601 stairs to reach this temple built at a height of about 1500 feet from the foothills. According to the inscription written inside Kapaleeshwar Mahadev Temple, the temple was built in 1105 AD by Bhamashah of Bhuj, Gujarat. After this, in 1105 AD, Seth got the temple constructed.
In 1935, Chauhan’s Bhimraj Joshi, Poker Khatri and the then SHO Shayar Shrimali had renovated this temple and constructed stairs through Dungarpuri Ji Math. There is also the Samadhi of Dungarpuri Maharaj on the hill in front of this temple. The beauty of the temple is further enhanced by the Indrabhan Pond situated on the mountain. Kapaleeshwar Mahadev Temple is situated on Chauhtan hill.
