Kapaleshwar Mahadev Temple (8/84) Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh

This temple of Kapaleeshwar Mahadev is situated on the right side in a small lane just before the turn of Danigate road from the left side, after climbing the valley in front of Chakratirtha road.

Devadhi Dev Mahadev himself once narrated the glory of Shri Kapaleshwar Mahadev, one of the 84 Mahadevs located in Mahakalvan, to his devotees and witnessed the miracle of his own penis. It is said that by worshiping Shri Kapaleeshwar Mahadev, Devadhidev Mahadev himself got rid of the blame of killing Brahma.

At that time a yagya was organized by the Brahmins in the Mahakal forest. The Brahmins were completing their yagya by offering sacrifices in the yagya. Then Devadhidev Mahadev came there in a distorted form, applying ashes and holding a skull in his hand. In this way, the Brahmins, seeing him, without recognizing him, disrespected him a lot and got angry and asked him to leave from here.

Then Lord Shiva told them that they had taken a vow to remain married until they were freed from the crime of killing Brahma. If my fast is successful, I will be freed from the sin of killing Brahma.

Lord Shiva sat down in a distorted form and started requesting the Brahmins, but the Brahmins did not agree at all, then Lord Shiva said, I will come after eating. Till then you wait for my offering but after hearing this the Brahmin got angry and started abusing Lord Shiva without knowing due to which the skull slipped out of his hand and fell and broke into pieces due to which many more skulls were formed. When Brahmins started throwing them away, more couples started forming.

Seeing the number of skulls, the Brahmins understood that he was not an ordinary human being. After that, all the Brahmins started asking for forgiveness and requesting to be seen in their real form, then Shiva revealed his real form. Seeing Shiva, the Brahmins started repenting for their actions and performed havan with Shatrudri etc., due to which Mahadev became pleased and told them that at the place where this skull had fallen, there is a divine Anadilinga of mine, which has been covered due to the passage of time.

Worship this Linga so that your sins and the guilt of Brahma murder will also be erased. By worshiping this Linga, I got freedom from killing Brahma after cutting off one of the heads of Lord Brahma.

By worshiping this Linga on the Chaturdashi of the month of Sawan and in the month of Sawan, a person is freed from all sins and it is also said that the glory of prevention of murder of Brahma through proper worship and Rudrabhishek is given.
