History

Khereshwar Temple, located two and a half kilometers away from Shivrajpur towards Ganga, is about seven hundred years old. It is believed that Ajar Amar Ashvasthama is worshiped first thing in the morning every day to have darshan of the Shivling established here. Even today, when the doors of the temple are opened in the morning, special flowers and water are found offered.It is said that in ancient times, the milk from the cows of the shepherds started flowing on their own when they came to this place. On digging by the villagers, a Shivalinga was found. This place was called Khereshwar because it was situated on the banks of Chhatarpur village.
Main preparations in Saavan
Due to increase in the number of devotees in the month of Shravan, the police along with the temple management committee have made security arrangements. Apart from arranging the queue for the visitors, the committee people also keep in mind the problems of the devotees. Devotees can perform Jalabhishek at regular time in the temple. Security is increased on the day of Maha Aarti and Shringaar. Police have installed CCTV cameras here.
-Obstacles are removed by the darshan of Khereshwar Mahadev. Milk consecration has special significance in the month of Shravan. Devotees are being offered worship and darshan in the temple every day. A huge crowd of devotees gather every Monday.
Khereshwar temple has mythological importance. The wishes of every devotee who comes here is fulfilled. Fruits, flowers and worship materials are available outside the temple, due to which the devotees are able to worship properly. Offering water after bathing in Ganga is considered to have special significance.
The month of Saavan is dedicated to the devotion of Shiva, those who worship and worship him during this entire month get the desired results. There are many ancient Shiva temples in the city and surrounding areas, where devotees throng to worship in the month of Sawan. The most famous among these and the main center of devotion is the Khereshwar temple. People’s wishes are fulfilled by seeing Shivalinga in this mythological temple. There is Saraiya Ghat nearby on the banks of river Ganga, where people take bath and offer Ganga water to Shivalinga. Devotees come for darshan from many far away districts including Kanpur, Unnao, Kanpur Dehat, Kannauj.

In this temple, when the door opens every morning, special flowers are placed on the Shivalinga and it is worshipped.
