The temple of Shri Khandeshwar Mahadev reflects the values of Shiva Mahatma. It is believed that gods like Vishnu, Brahma, Indra, Kuber, Agni etc. had also attained Siddhi by having the darshan of Shri Khandeshwar Mahadev. According to mythology, there was a king named Bhadrashva in Tretayuga. He had many queens. Queen Kantimati had the most amazing beauty among those queens. Once Mahamuni Agastya came to his place and said that he would stay there for seven days. The king honored him and considered his stay a blessing. Seeing Kantimati, sage Agastya, full of Siddhis, became very happy after knowing some old mysterious things and started dancing happily. Then the king was surprised and asked Mahamuni, Rishivar, what happiness are you feeling by dancing? On this the sage said that you all are fools who do not understand my meaning. Then King Bhadrashva folded his hands and requested the sage to please reveal this secret.
Then the sage said that Rajan, in your previous birth in a place named Vidisha, your beautiful wife Kantimati used to work as a maid in the house of Vaishya Haridatt and you were her husband and used to work as a servant. The Vaishya where both of you worked was a great devotee of Mahadev.He used to serve Mahakaal daily. Once that Vaishya came to Mahakal forest and worshiped Mahadev. After some time, both of you died but due to the devotion of that Vaishya, you got income in this life. After listening to the sage, the king reached Mahakal forest and after reaching there he worshiped a divine Linga, Khandeshwar. Pleased with his worship, Mahadev blessed him with uninterrupted kingdom enjoyment. According to the belief, by having darshan of Shri Khandeshwar Mahadev one attains amazing achievements and the sins of the previous birth are destroyed. It is believed that the importance of visiting here increases manifold in the month of Shravan. The temple of Shri Khandeshwar Mahadev is situated in Khilchipur village on Agar Road.
