Story of changing the location of Shivalinga
This temple was once near Gomti and dates back to Treta Yuga. Kundilya Rishi established Shivalinga on the banks of Gomti. During the construction of the temple, many times devotees and priests tried to install the Lord Shivalinga in the middle but the Shivalinga kept changing its place and came to the old place. It is said that this continued for three to four nights continuously. After consulting a sage, the deity was installed at its precious place in the corner. Since then the Shiva-Linga became famous as Lingeshwar Mahadev and the temple came to be known as Koneshwar Temple.
