Share

Chakravarti King Maharaj Dashrath had established Kshireshwar Nath.

Ayodhya. In the Vaishnav city of Ayodhya, preparations for Mahashivratri festival are being done with great enthusiasm in the Shiva temples of every locality. Similarly to Nageshwar Nath temple, Kshireshwar Nath Mahadev temple also has great importance. Kshireshwar temple is also a temple of mythological tradition. According to popular legends, this temple was established by Chakravarti King Maharaj Dasharatha before the Putreshti Yagya.

Here he consecrated Lord Bholenath with Ksheeranna (milk and rice pudding). It is said that this Abhishek was so huge that the biggest pool of the Abhishek substance was formed which was named Kshirsagar. This Kshirsagar is mentioned in Skanda Purana. It is also special that after the population settled around this pond, the name of the locality became Khirauniya. On the other hand, the people of Ayodhya also have deep reverence for Kshireshwar Nath Mahadev. Local devotees come here regularly to worship the Lord. The administrator of this temple, Pandit Ramagya Mishra, says that in ancient times this temple was occupied by monks.

The front portion of the temple’s verandah was broken due to the widening of Rampath.

Kshireshwar Nath Mahadev Temple has a lot of respect among the local citizens who, apart from doing Jalabhishek regularly, also perform Rudrabhishek and other rituals here from time to time. Due to coming under the influence of widening of Rampath, apart from the platform of this temple, the front wall is certain to be broken. At present the front wall and half the roof have been demolished. Even before this, in 2014, an attempt was made to demolish the platform of the temple but it was not possible due to opposition. At present the temple was renovated due to the personal efforts of MP Lallu Singh.
