Kudluru Sri Sarvaguna Rama Temple
Sri Sarvaguna Rama Temple is located at Kudluru close to Channapatna- Karnataka.The temple was built around the 4th-5th century and has thousands years of history. It is one of the most famous temples in Karnataka built by the famous royal family of Dakshina Bharata “Ganga dynasty”.
It is said that this temple was built in a single night and further this temple was developed during the reign of the famous Chola rulers Raja Raja Chola and Rajendra Chola. From the available inscription we get to know that the village Kudluru was an Agrahara by the name Rajaraja Chaturvedi Mangalam during the Chola period.
Legend
According to legend, Jatayu lost a fight to Ravana in Ramayana and waited for the arrival of Sri Rama helplessly. After narrating the incident of Sita’s abduction by Ravana to Sri Rama and Lakshmana, the wounded Jatayu died.
Just before the death Sri Rama asked Jatayu his last wish for which Jatayu said he should have his Vishwarupa darahana. Immediately Sri Rama gave darshan as “Shankachakra gadhahasta Vishwaroopa Narayanaswamy” and stayed at the Kudluru and came to be known as Sri Saravaguna Rama. It is believed that after giving darshan Lord Rama also cremated Jatayu here as a symbol of this even now “Budigudde” is next to the temple.
This soil has medicinal properties which can be seen to cure many ailments miraculously. “Yajnavalkya Maharishis” performed penance here, “Kanva Maharishis” worshipped Sri Rama in the holy temple of Sri Ramadevara in Kudluru.
