Lakkapuram Temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan, located in the Lakkapuram village of Erode district in Tamilnadu. Here the presiding deity is called as Kumara Subramanya Swamy. The Kumara Subramanya Temple is located on a small hilllock with 53 steps. Kumara Subramanya Temple is located on the Shenbaga hill in Lakkapuram which is around 9 kilometres from the Erode bus stand.
This temple, built with black stones, features a three-tiered rajagopuram (temple tower).The Temple is believed to be 500 years old. And the beautiful front hall built elaborately to enter the temple is the sanctum sanctorum with the lantern, the flagpole, the altar, and the peacock vehicle. On outside the Ardha Mandapam the Dwarapalakas and Lord Ganesha can be seen. On the right side of the path, a statue of Lord Murugan is carved in the shape of a swastika. In the sanctum sanctorum, the place is blessed by Lord Murugan with the name of Kumara Subramanya.
According to the temple’s legend, Lord Murugan, on his way to Palani after getting upset with his father Shiva over a mango, first arrived at this location. He then visited Chennimalai, Sivanmalai, and Vattamalai before finally reaching Palani.
It is believed that those facing obstacles in marriage can pray here, and their issues will be resolved, leading to successful unions. The deity of this temple, Lord Murugan, faces east and is seen gazing towards the Ardhanareeswarar Temple at Tiruchengode. The temple also houses ancient idols of Murugan, Vinayagar, Navagrahas, and Idumban.
The pond in front of the temple, which never dries up, is considered a unique feature. Devotees flock here in large numbers during auspicious occasions such as Krithikkai Shashti, Panguni Uthiram, and Karthigai Deepam to seek the blessings of Lord Subramanya Murugan. The temple also has 34 steps leading up to it, adding to its charm and significance.
