Lokpaleshwar Mahadev Mandir (12/84) Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh

Share

This Shivling of Lokpaleshwar Mahadev, one of the 84 Mahadev, will be seen on the right side after descending the valley of Harsiddhi Pal located in Ujjain, just in front of the first left turn on the Kaharwadi road. In fact, here you will see temples of two Mahadevs out of 84 Mahadevs side by side. Here you will have darshan of Shri Prayageshwar (71) temple first and Shri Lokpaleshwar Mahadev second.

Shri Lokpaleshwar Mahadev located in Ujjain frees the devotees from all sins just by seeing them. This Shivling situated in a square brass water vessel is about 5 inches high in size. This Shivalinga made of brown stone is wrapped around a brass serpent carved in water. Near the outlet of the reservoir, there are chakras engraved on both the corners and conch shells on the hemisphere.

On entering the temple, there is a very beautiful statue made of marble in the niche on the left side, while the devotees will be able to see the idol of Goddess Parvati in front. The floor of the temple is also of marble. At this place there is neither the shadow of Nagdev nor the trident and damru on the Shivalinga. Nandi is sitting outside near Lord Shiva.

According to a legend, in ancient times, many powerful and terrible demons and monsters were born from Hiranyakashyap. Those demons and rakshasas started destroying the ashrams of sages and saints in the forests and mountains located on the earth due to which the offerings in yagyas and the sound of mantras which give power to the gods stopped and when all these works stopped, the gods too Started becoming powerless.

On the other hand, after reaching the evil heaven, he defeated Lord Indradi and started taking over the heaven. He also defeated Indradev in heaven, Dharmaraja in the south, Varundev in the west and Kubera in the north.

Seeing their defeat and loss of their kingdoms, all the gods, Gandharvas and Yakshas reached to the refuge of their Dinanath Deenbandhu Lord Shri Hari Vishnu. Everyone praised God with folded hands and started praying – O Deendayal Prabhu, only you can protect us. You have protected us gods many times and you have killed even more terrible demons like Namuchi, Vrishabharvan, Hiranyakashyapu, Narakasura, Murnama and half the more terrible demons. Now we are in your shelter and feet, hence you will have to protect us gods.

Seeing the gods getting distraught, Shri Hari said – O Gods, you all are bound by your deeds for the creation, you are responsible for the governance of all the worlds, hence you all are also the protectors. Therefore, protecting you is also my supreme duty, but you gods will have to go to the God of Gods and guardian of Lokpals (Lokpaleshwar Mahadev), only he can protect you.

Hearing the words of Shri Hari, the gods started asking permission to go to Kailash. But the deities of Shri Hari were told the solution to darshan and worship a divine Shivling and said that all of you should proceed towards Mahakal forest. The gods happily thanked him and started leaving.

As soon as Mahakal went to the forest, the demons and demons stopped him from going again and challenged him for war, but the demons again overpowered the gods. The gods again ran and reached Shri Hari. Shri Hari told them that all of them should go in Kapali guise to see Shiva.

The gods applied ashes, wore bells, skulls and anklets, worshiped and praised Shiva in the skull form and then reached Mahakaal forest. As soon as they reached Mahakaal forest, the divine Shivling appeared to them. As soon as the Shivalinga was seen, the gods again worshiped and praised Shiva and started praying to Lord Shiva to get rid of their sorrows.

As soon as the prayers of the Gods (Lokpalas) were completed, terrible flames started coming out from that divine Shivalinga. Due to that terrible flame the demons and demons started burning one by one. After his sufferings were over, the Gods thanked him and named the Shivalinga as Lokpaleshwar for protecting the Lokpals.
