Mahahar Dham, located in Salemapur Devkali Gram Panchayat of Mardah block of Ghazipur, is the center of people’s faith due to its historical-mythological importance. This place has historical importance due to its association with Maharaja Dasharatha and his parents, devotee Shravan Kumar. People come from far and wide to see this place. Due to the unwavering faith and belief in the ancient Shiva temple in the Dham complex, there is a constant flow of devotees throughout the year.

Thousands of devotees from far and wide perform Jalabhishek and Dugdhabhishek in Mahahar Dham on Mahashivratri and Sawan Monday. It is believed that by visiting and worshiping in the temple, wishes are fulfilled. Every year on the occasion of Mahashivratri, a huge fair is organized here which lasts for a week. In the Mahahar Dham complex, people of every caste have collected donations and built temples of different Gods and Goddesses. Sardih Gram Panchayat, located at some distance from Mahahar Dham of Mardah Block, is said to be named after Shravan Kumar. Maharaja Dashrath of Ayodhya had reached the forest near Mahahar Dham while hunting. At the same time, Shravan Kumar was passing through the same forest to take his blind parents on a Kanwar for a pilgrimage. When the blind parents felt thirsty, he made them sit at a place in the forest and went in search of water. He was taking water in the lake when Maharaja Dasharatha’s piercing arrow hit him. Regarding the pond located in the Mahahar Dham complex, it is believed that this is the same pond where Shravan Kumar had gone to collect water.

There is a pond in about 335 bighas next to Mahahar Dham which has the potential to be developed as a tourist spot. To develop the pond located next to Mahahar Dham as a tourist spot, the government has done beautification work and built a park etc. Beautification work has also been done by the Forest Department.
