Maha Kumbh Mela is counted among the biggest fairs of the country. This fair is held every 12 years in four major places Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik.  According to mythological beliefs, bathing in the river Ganga during Mahakumbh frees one from the cycle of birth and death. In such a situation, lakhs of devotees come to the Kumbh Mela to take bath.

In the Maha Kumbh Mela, lakhs of devotees come to the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati rivers and take a holy bath and it is considered an opportunity to attain salvation. It is organized on the basis of special astronomical coincidence.

It is believed that in ancient times there was a war between the gods and demons, during which the nectar pot was obtained from the churning of the ocean. Holy water had fallen from this Amrit Kalash in Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain and Nashik. This is the reason why Maha Kumbh Mela is organized at these places.

What is the ancient belief?

It is believed that in ancient times there was a war between the gods and demons, during which the nectar pot was obtained from the churning of the ocean. The gods and demons decided to churn the ocean and divide all the gems that came out of it. The most valuable gem that came out in the churning of the ocean was nectar. In such a situation, there was a fight between the gods and the demons to get it.

To save the nectar from the demons, Lord Vishnu gave that vessel to his vehicle Garuda. When the demons tried to snatch that vessel from Garuda, some drops of nectar spilled from that vessel and fell in Allahabad, Nashik, Haridwar and Ujjain. This is the reason why since then Mahakumbh Mela is organized at these places every 12 years.

Mahakumbh Mela is not only important from the religious point of view, but it is also a symbol of Indian culture, social unity and devotion. This time Mahakumbh Mela is being organized in Prayagraj in 2025. Earlier in 2013, Mahakumbh was organized in Prayagraj.

Haridwar Mahakumbh is one of the biggest and important religious events of Hindu religion. This fair is organized once every 12 years at Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar. Where lakhs of devotees come to take bath in the river Ganga. During this time, devotees take a dip in the holy waters of Ganga to get rid of their sins.

By taking bath here, the devotees are freed from the sins of their life and attain salvation. Sages and saints from various Akharas also gather in Mahakumbh. During this time he participates in havan, puja and other religious rituals. Some specific days in Mahakumbh are celebrated as Shahi Snan. There is a huge crowd of devotees in this.
