Guhyeshwari Shakti Peeth

In all the Shakti Peeth’s, Mata Sati’s body parts fell, in the Guhyeshwari temple both the knees of mata fell, so it is called Shri Guhyeshwari Shaktipeeth. This temple is dedicated to Guhyeshwari (Gupta Ishwari), the Devi is also known as Guhyakali. Bhairav of Guhyeshwari Shaktipeeth is Kapali.

Before visiting the famous Shri Pashupatinath temple of Nepal, it is considered mandatory to visit Mata Guhyeshwari. This tradition is still followed by the members of the royal family there. That is, first the Guhyeshwari temple is worshipped, only after that other temples are visited.

This Shaktipeeth is located about 1 km east of Shri Pashupatinath Temple and is situated near the banks of the Bagmati River in Kathmandu, Nepal. It is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus and especially for Tantric worshippers. Almost all the idols of Garbhagraha are made of gold and silver.

Like the Shri Pashupatinath Temple itself, only Hindus and Buddhists of Indian and Tibetan origin are allowed to enter the main temple. Many musical instruments used during the puja-arati were gifted by King Rana Bahadur.

The architecture of the temple is made in the Bhutanese Pagoda architectural style. Due to its proximity to the famous Mrigsthali forest and situated on the banks of the Bagmati river, the environment of the Guhyeshwari temple seems to be decorated with greenery and flowers. If you are going from Shri Guhyeshwari Shaktipeeth to Shri Pashupatinath Temple by forest route, then be a little careful from the mischievous monkeys coming on the way.

Dashain and Navratri are the main festivals celebrated here, due to the proximity of Shri Pashupatinath temple, on Shivratri and Monday, devotees also come here for darshan.
