Maleshwar Mahadev Temple is in Mahar Kalan village located in Samod amidst the Aravalli mountain range near the capital Jaipur. This temple is hundreds of years old. The Shivling installed in the temple bends towards Uttarayan and Dakshinayan according to the Sun being in Uttarayan or Dakshinayan. There are inscriptions of 1101 AD inscribed on the pillars of the temple pavilion. Swayambhulinga is present in this temple.
This picturesque place situated in the lap of nature is about forty kilometers away from Jaipur. Nature is kind all around the temple. Natural springs flowing in the rain, water ponds, ancient ruins nearby make this place even more worth seeing. There is a constant flow of devotees here every day, but in the month of Sawan, a large number of Kanwariyas come to perform the anointment of Lord Shiva.
It is said that the present Maharakalan village used to be a part of the Mahishmati city of Mahabali King Sahasrabahu in mythological times. This is the reason why this temple was named Maleshwar Mahadev Temple.
According to the Mahant of the temple, the Mughals had demolished this temple. The broken idol of Lord Vishnu sitting with Goddess Lakshmi on the bed that was broken at that time is still present here. After the demolition of the temple by the Mughals, the temple was renovated many years later. A dome and spire were constructed on it.
Due to the natural beauty of Samod and Maharaklan villages, this place is quite famous as a tourist destination. Many films have been shot in this village. In which films like ‘Data’, ‘Bees Saal Baad’, ‘Partition’, ‘Karan Arjun’, ‘Koyla’, ‘Loha’, ‘Yugandhar’, ‘Soldier’, ‘Itihaas’, ‘Mehndi’, ‘Maidane-e-Jang’ Are included. Due to the presence of waterfalls around the temple, people also come here for picnics.
