Mangodu Sri Subrahmanya Temple

Mangodu Sri Subrahmanya Temple is located at Udyavara-Udupi in the state of Karnataka. The temple is very famous for Subramanya Shasti festival.

The original Skanda deity of Srikshetra Mangodu is in the new shrine (Srivasuki Subrahmanya) and the new Skanda idol in the original shrine. Both Subrahmanya shrines are facing east-west which is a very rare Karnika and Jagrutaa Subramanya Kshetra.
Several centuries ago, Rama Bhojaraja of Udupi established Durgalayas in the four directions and Skandalayas in the four directions of the Anantasana temple as an atonement for a snake that died while ploughing the land. Among them, the Skandalaya in the southwest direction is Kutpadi’s Mangodu Subrahmanya Devala. The Moolaskanda idol of Mangodu disappeared in the nearby Nagabana due to slight cracks in the crown and hands due to fire.

The new idol was installer in the Mangodu temple. Over time, in the 1960s, Sheena Nayak, an atheist laborer of Kannarpadi, and his wife were instructed in their dreams to worship the original idol of Mangodu. The Nayaka who was originally atheist did not bother at first. But as he continuously dreamt for three days, he inquired from the priests of the nearby temple and finally came to Kuthpadi after inquiring about the way he saw in the dream. There he saw the original Skandamurti of Mangodu, whose head was seen underground near Nagabana.

All the scenes seen in the dream were actually there in front of his eyes. As per Swami’s miracle and the punya (blessings) of earlier births, the atheist Nayaka gradually turned into theist. Since then weekly puja was held every Monday and once in a year flower puja was held in the Nagabana.

The Nayaka had a dream of building a small temple for Swami. As per Swami’s instructions in 1998-99, when questioned at Ashtamangala, the Nayaka started building a small temple, it was like a miracle that many donors came forward to serve with tanu-mana-dhana and under his leadership and blessings of the Swami a grand temple came up. Enshrined towards the west and with the Ashtabandha Brahmakalash as Sri Vasukisubrahmanya of Karnika, the Moolamurti of Mangodu is worshipped in Kuthpadi with splendor. In 2010, the 12th year of Brahmakalasham was held and in 2022, the 24th year of Brahmakalashotsava was held with great grandeur.

Thousands of examples show the Swami relieving the hardships of devotees who believe and worship with unique devotion. His miracles have happened and will continue to happen in Karnika Srikshetra. Numerous devotees come and pray to the Lord with devotion.
