Matangeshwer Mahadev Mandir (60/84) Pinjarwadi, Kamri Marg, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh
This temple is located in Pinjarwadi locality parallel to Mirza Naeem Beg Marg. Its main entrance faces south. To the south of the original temple, a tin shed assembly hall of about 200 square feet has been built. Outside on the right side, a 3 feet high vermillion painted idol of Lord Ganesha is installed here. The entrance gate is made of 7 feet high iron, inside which the divine Matangeshwar Linga is installed in the sanctum sanctorum of about 50 square feet, surrounded by a square brass snake figure.
There is a black snake shadowing the 8 inches high linga of circular black stone of about 2 feet diameter. A tall iron trident with a damru is situated in the north-west corner of the sanctum sanctorum. On the front wall, there is a very ancient and exquisite sculpture of Shiva-Parvati made of white marble and on the left wall, there is an artistic and attractive statue of white marble. Vahana Nandi is installed on a 6 inches high pedestal in front of the west facing exit door.
In the Dwapar era, there was a wicked son of a Brahmin named Sumati, Matang. He hurt a pregnant child and asked the pregnant woman how she came to know me as a Chandala. When Gardabhi called him the son of a lowly nobleman, Matang went to do penance. Despite Indra’s discouragement, he performed penance for a thousand years by standing on one leg. He asked why I can’t attain Brahminhood.
Then, Indra was pleased and sent him to attain Vipratva by seeing a divinely idolized Linga to the east of Siddheshwar Linga. After reaching there, Matang saw the remaining fruitful Linga. By the supreme grace of Linga, Matang then attained Brahminhood. Linga said, I am the groom for those seeking a groom and I curse the evil spirit Gaya. Matang thus got a rare Brahmin benefit.
Mahadev told Parvati that whoever wishes to be pure, Mahabhag, meditative and free-spirited should visit Matangeshwar in Kalikaal. This sex is sinful and auspicious. Oh goddess! One who sees it will earn good deeds on earth and reside eternally in heaven.
