Melmalai Sri Lakshmi Narayana Kubera Perumal Temple
The Temple of the Trinity, located in Kuberanagar of Tiruvannamalai in Tamil Nadu, was built by Sri Rajaji Swamigal. In this temple, Lord Kubera Perumal is seen with Sridevi and Bhoomadevi as the main deities. Various other deities, such as Lord Lakshmi Narasimha, Nataraja Perumal, Chakrathalvar, and Lord Shiva, are also enshrined here, with daily poojas and offerings taking place.
The most notable feature of the temple is the idol of Lord Vishnu with Sridevi and Bhoomadevi. Originally constructed in the style of the Tirupati Temple, the Kubera Perumal Temple is a marvel of South Indian architecture. Another unique feature of this temple is the chariot-shaped Vimana, which is not found anywhere else in India. The Kubera Perumal Temple is also renowned for the shrines of Kamadhenu, Vishnu Kalpavriksha, and Visvaksena. Here, devotees can witness the presence of the Trinity.
HISTORY
In this Kaliyuga, Lord Brahma’s curse was lifted by the Divine Grace of Lord Arunachaleswara. Shree Padmavathi appeared to her disciple Sri Rajaji in a dream, and a Voice (Ashariravani) informed him that Brahma’s curse had been lifted.
To learn more, Sri Rajaji entered a deep meditation. In a trance, the great saint Kaushika Gotreya Vishwamitra, along with Shree Kamadhenu standing under the Kalpavriksha, appeared before him and said, “Due to your penance, you have attained Kamadhenu in this Kaliyuga. To honor this achievement, I have chosen this Kubera Nagara as the abode where the Trinity has manifested along with their consorts. I, along with many saints who are one with me, will manifest here. You have performed thousands of services, and the Trinity will bless you with bliss. You may, with Gomata as the central focus, build a Goshala and install the idols of the Trinity as they will now appear before you. Those who contribute gifts and offerings to Gomata will be rid of sins from even previous births, and their future generations will be blessed.” After saying this, he vanished.
Then, surrounded by Gomatas in all eight directions, the Navaratna Hills manifested, and on them, the Trinity with their consorts and Sri Kubera appeared. At this Divine sight, Sri Rajaji Swamy secluded himself in a room, fasting and meditating for many days.
One night, Lord Annamalai appeared before him. The devotee cried, “Lord, I have the good fortune to see your Lotus feet, which even Vishnu and Brahma have not seen. I have witnessed your presence and being.” Tears of joy filled his eyes, and then Vishnu, Brahma, and their consorts, along with Kubera and the Navaratna Hills, surrounded by thousands of cows and a bison, appeared before him. He joined his palms in reverence and, in ecstasy, heard three blasts that shook the earth. Feeling as though lifted to the sky, he awoke with a start and remained in the bliss of Brahmananda for several months.
Later, following the Lord’s will, Sri Rajaji Swamigal constructed this Kubera Perumal Temple along with shrines for other deities and Kamadhenu.
